Yes, you read that right. Ah, my life is highly ironic. I remember when I first watched Yu-gi-oh, the Japanese subtitled version no less, and had no desire to ever watch it again. Eventually the dubbed version running on Warner Brothers began to picque my interest. I could care less about the highly involved battle strategies, but I do find the basic plot and background fascinating. You see I was given a plot bunny, from one of those annoying little flashback sequences within Yugioh to the ancient Egyptian past. Annoying because they never satisfy your thirst for the whole story of those times. The irony being, that is of course what I am also now researching for said plot bunny. *shakes her arm and the plot bunny refuses to relinquish it's bite hold on her wrist* As you can see, I'm getting a bit... frustrated. I've hit the anipike, done some google searches and other random surfing and link following and cannot seem to find the info I am looking for. Does anyone know of a site that *HAS* the past from Egypt outlined? Or knows of a place with summaries from either the anime or manga that contains the information? Or anyone who wants to just take pity on me and illuminate me? The most I have been able to find is the small gleanings throughout the Battle City storyline, but nothing else. My Yami wants to be unleashed in ficcage... and, and... *glares* At least my research on ancient Egypt is doing BETTER. *whistles innocently* I'll throw out a teaser of a bone: Sekhmet. *snarks* Yes I *AM* alive. I've just been busy. If it hasn't been one thing it has been another. Somehow I survived my final papers and came through the semester alright. I have been focusing on wading through Inter Library Loan materials for my thesis research. I've travelled a bit to visit friends and relatives, was in the company of a hobbitie. In addition to that I've been hard at work on Ushicon business, including a site re-design. I also have some toher websites I'm working on for other organizations, and I hope to update my DA CLUB site that has been neglected for *FAR* too long. I'm ashamed of it these days -_-. I also have some jewelry repair work waiting on me to have the time to take it out. No folks, I have NOT forgotten about it. My latest obsessions: music from Evanescence, the anime/manga series Full Moon wo Sagashite, Legolas of course, the anime Mthyical Detective Loki Ragnarok, and sleeping in. I'm highly amused at the moment and find my life highly ironic. Why? I picked up a random fantasy book for readage... it read like it would be a story along the lines of Arthurian type themes, lost king, returning the king to the throne, etc. Turns out so far all the major characters are men, and they lust after other men. It is not explicit, but you know they're having sex. One of them is a bit shameless, and his character is so much fun. :P Alot of the book takes place in a university setting along the lines of the early days of Cambridge & Oxford. The character I love so, Campion, comes onto one of the teachers with these witty, academic, come-on lines. The graduate student in my cheered at that. Example: "One hard look from your eyes could turn my tongue to stone. Everyone is afraid of you."Doesn't that just sound like fun? I'm only about 1/4 through it at the moment, but if anyone is interested in checking it out, the title is "The Fall of the Kings" by Kushner & Sherman. It's that lovely mind-crushing, stress-causing, I pull far too many all-nighters in a row time of year known as finals. In addition to the paper, paper re-write, and presentation I had during dead week (don't these people understand the meaning of DEAD WEEK. ARGH why can't our school adopt an official DEAD WEEK policy, as it currently stands it is "suggested" that you don't have major assigments, paper, presentations, or tests due the week before finals), I have a 20 page paper and another paper due this upcoming week. Saturday I'll be working midnight to 6am, then heading into Grapevine to overrun Eye Health Care Assocaites and Xerox, Xerox, Xerox the Interlibrary Loan materials that arrived for my research. Hey don't disregard the free copies that cost me only paper and toner. To make matters worse, the 20 page paper I thought was due Thursday (which is technically when my class final should be), nope, it is due Monday, and the other paper is due Tuesday. *WAILS* I'll be very bitchy, crabby, and grouchy, and basically I don't have the time to deal with people. So give me a wide berth for your own safety. I had a rough weekend. It started out good though, but went downhill. Sailordot and I had free passes to see the Cowboy Bebop movie at the Angelika. But when we went (early too so we could eat at the theatre's cafe) the showing in 2 hours was sold out, and we didn't feel like waiting around 4 hours to catch the next showing. Once Keegander met up with us, we went over to Sushi-Yama. I had the best Yakisoba I have ever had there, and tried Taiyaki-kun for the first time. Taiyaki-kun are those red-bean paste filled fish shaped bread pastries. They were served with icecream, whipcream, and strawberries, and I was in LOVE. My allergies were starting to act up then however, and by the time I awoke Saturday I think being flattened by an 18-wheeler would have felt better. I slept *ALL* day Saturday, and only got up around 4pm to eat and take my next dose of antihistamine/decongestant, then I went back to bed and re-woke around 7pm to turn on the TV and discover we had nasty storms rolling through, complete with funnel clouds trying so hard to become tornados. Since there was an Anime Meeting happening at the school I tried calling SailorDot and one of the other officers on their cel's, but got no one. So I went over to let them know first hand, basically tto tell them to warn anyone who leaves about the storms and if they were heading north, they may want to stay to wait out the golfball sizedhail and the potential tornados. It was there I found out that Sailordot wasn't at the meeting (though on a side note, it was the first meeting using the club's own bought projector). She was at the hospital having been notified that her father was in a wreck. Keegander and I later went to the hospital. Sailordot's family is either out of state or out of the country, except her mother who she couldn't reach. So she was having to deal with things by her lonesome. Once we got at the hospital we began a search for Mcdonald's (Sailordot's fave, and one of the only places her picky brother will eat food from). Well over 30 minutes later driving all over Fort worth in and out of the cultural district, the stockyards, downtown, etc, we found a McDonald's. We went to the hospital, and made our way to the OR only to discover that we had just missed her. She had decided to go home because her little brother was driving her crazy. So we trekked over to her place, delivered the food (because of the storm the McDonald's by her place had closed early and she was hungry, so it worked out). All we know is that her father was in surgery to realign and repair breaks that had occured in his wrist and pelvis bone. We watched movies, Lycaon came over after the anime meeting, and eventually drove me back home. I had borrowed some stuff while over at Sailordot's, and on Sunday (after not being able to sleep despite feeling very drugged from my medication) I watched all of Crest of the Stars, the first 5 episodes of banner of the Stars, and finally saw the end of Full Moon wo Sagashite. The ending was satisfying, it wrapped up the story elements, and had the same gentleness at the end of the series I loved in the beginning of the series. I cried my eyes out -_- Imagine how "pretty" that looked on top of my hayfever red and already splotchy and blood-shot eyes? Ugh. Then I slept, in snippets, 2 hours here, 2 hours there, and finalyl crashed for a solid 12 hours of sleep. I did something very stupid... and am now paying for it. I'm in so much damn pain I can't bend over to put my shoes on, and it hurts to dress. What, did I do you ask? I got my belly button pierced >_< OW. I am quopting the following from an article over at Time: Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, was in Washington last week to urge a change in the Clinton-era reforms after the war. She argues that women in combat risk rape by their captors. The two other women missing from the 507th may well be POWs too, she notes. "Feminists are heralding this as a step forward for women's rights, but it's a step back for civilization," she says. "If we say it's O.K. to put women in combat, we're saying it's O.K. for sex abuse by the enemy."Ok how freaking stupid is this woman? By that same logic you're saying, any prisoner is entitled to torture and abuse. Why do you think we freaking came up with the Geneva Conventions?!? (Granted it does damn little good when the enemy doesn't comply to them, but still). Let's please give the service men and women some credit here. When they signed on they knew their were potential risks involved, including torture or even rape. Yes folks men may be raped too (they report it a hell of a lot less though, and it does occur less often. But during WW2 boys at least in captured territories by Japan were forced into the same roles "comfort" women were forced into). I mean they are required to file a will and testament and power of attorney before going over. Granted in this case, the woman POW they are speaking about was never meant to be near the lines of combat, and lacked specialized training. But this Ms. Donnelly really irks my ire. Tis bad enough she is "accepting" the societal double standard, but look at her position, President of the Center for Military Readiness! What sort of ignoramous allowed her to be in charge of that. She's obviously got no damn common sense, and in my opinion is insulting the very nature of the service men and women she serves. >_< I think women have the right to voluntarily be and serve in the military. I'm not quite sure if I think they should be drafted, however. I would like to extend birthday wishes to Tamyris and Squirt. They both have birthdays tomorrow. I hope you have a purple day Squirt. :) As the subject implies, I'm going through a bit of Spring Cleaning.
